Troubleshooting Your Furnace

Feb 2, 2022Uncategorized0 comments

Have you tried to start up your heating system to be sure it’s ready to keep you warm all season long? If your home or business is equipped with a furnace, now is the time to have it maintained by a professional to avoid any potential problems. Take care of those strange noises and smells your furnace makes once and for all to ensure your heater is at its best. Here are a few tips on troubleshooting your furnace.

If you notice whistling or decreased heat output from your furnace, a great place to start is by checking the filter. It is generally recommended to change your filter once a month: while some higher end filters will last longer than a month, it is important to have a regular schedule so you don’t forget to change it.

If you still notice decreased heat output, your thermostat is your next stop. Though it sounds obvious, be sure your thermostat is set to “heat.” Next check to be sure that the temperature is set to a high enough point to actually turn the heater on.  If your thermostat is battery operated, do you remember the last time its batteries were changed? Having extras on hand may bail you out of a tight spot if your thermostat shuts off in the dead of winter.

If these tips still aren’t producing the heating results you’re after, worry not – Southern states’s top heating & AC team is standing by to help restore your systems to excellent condition. call extreme at one of our locations
